HSW Welcomes Back Julie Withers as Partner, Adds Associate Jaclyn Newman

October 17, 2023

Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler LLP is thrilled to announce that Julie Withers, who has tried cases and represented clients with firm founder Jonathan Harris for two decades, has rejoined the firm full time as a partner. The firm welcomes her back enthusiastically.

HSW is also pleased to announce that litigator Jaclyn Newman has joined as an associate in the firm’s New York office.

Ms. Withers has extensive trial experience defending clients being investigated for or charged with financial crimes. She was recently a key part of a winning trial team that secured a complete defense verdict in a high-profile criminal antitrust poultry price-fixing trial brought by the Department of Justice. She has handled investigations and trials involving essentially all major governmental and self-regulatory investigatory agencies, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the Criminal Section of the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division, the SEC, FINRA, and the CFA Board. In the process, she has helped clients confront allegations involving fraud, securities laws violations, insider trading, antitrust and OFAC violations.*

Ms. Newman joins HSW after beginning her career at Latham & Watkins LLP, where she developed extensive commercial litigation and trial experience. Jaclyn advises public and private companies as well as individuals in high-stakes complex commercial litigation, and provides pre-dispute counseling. She works with plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving employment matters, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, false advertising, fraud, unfair business practices, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement and trademark infringement claims. Over her growing legal career, Ms. Newman assisted in securing a $666 million arbitral award for a Fortune 500 Global IT services leader in a post-merger dispute. She also helped dismiss a $100 million action against a financial institution in a high-profile case involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and conversion claims.

The additions of Ms. Withers and Ms. Newman continue a trend of strong growth for HSW. Over the past year, the firm opened its Washingon, D.C. office and has added talented attorneys and staff across both its New York and D.C. offices.
