Cheryl A. Mitchell combines an insider’s know-how with an outsider’s pragmatism. A graduate of the Columbia University School of Law, Ms. Mitchell has extensive experience advising and representing Fortune 100 companies and executives in commercial litigation, financial services litigation, regulatory enforcement proceedings, employment law, and employment litigation.
Ms. Mitchell previously served as Senior Enforcement Counsel at FINRA, honing an expertise in handling complex enforcement proceedings involving the SEC, FINRA, and a broad range of finance industry laws, rules, and regulations.
In her private practice, Ms. Mitchell is a sophisticated commercial litigator with over 15 years of experience representing companies and individuals in employment law claims involving sexual harassment, Titles VI, VII, and IX of the Education Amendments, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and related contract disputes. She has expertise handling disputes stemming from negligent hiring and wrongful termination and is frequently sought to manage internal and regulatory investigations. Ms. Mitchell handles the negotiation and drafting of a wide range of employment contracts on behalf of both employers and employees. Additionally, Ms. Mitchell has extensive experience handling complex commercial litigation matters including securities class actions, financial services litigation and pharmaceutical mass torts and has tried cases to jury verdict.
After receiving her degree from Columbia, Ms. Mitchell began her career at Willkie Farr & Gallagher. She subsequently became a Partner at Reed Smith LLP, where she practiced for 15 years. Ms. Mitchell left Reed Smith to serve as Senior Enforcement Counsel at FINRA. Immediately prior to joining Harris St. Laurent, Ms. Mitchell was the founder and managing member of the Mitchell Legal Group PLLC.
